Kids Run Miami: Final Mile Recap 2016
The 2015-16 Kids Run Miami program was a great success, with approximately 1,500 kids and 30 schools participating in the Final Mile event on January 24, 2016! We had a great time hosting all of the teachers and kids who have been committed throughout the academic year to complete the cumulative 25 miles before finishing their marathon at the Final Mile event. It was a great experience to see everyone in their bright orange Kids Run Miami shirts running the last 1.2 miles of their marathon through downtown Miami, crossing the finish line at Bayfront Park and being awarded their finisher medals!

- “Appreciated Newcomer” – Riviera Middle
- “Largest Presence” – Miami Lakes K-8
- “Most Spirited” – Eugenia B. Thomas K-8
All teachers and coaches who participated are amazing in their own respect, and we couldn’t produce such a successful and fulfilling program without them! Additionally, our sincere appreciation goes out to Dr. Jayne Greenberg, M-DCPS District Director of Physical Education & Health Literacy, who continuously championed our efforts within the M-DCPS Board of Directors entity. Dr. Greenberg’s dedication and commitment throughout the duration of this program since its inception in 2003 has been one of the greatest contributions we could ever ask for! This year we presented the “Honorary Spotlight” award to Dr. Greenberg in order to express our appreciation for her advocacy and selfless contributions throughout the program.
Kids Run Miami could not exist without the continuous support and effort from Dr. Jayne Greenberg and the wonderful Miami-Dade County teachers and coaches. Our mission in producing this program and the Final Mile event is to promote a healthy lifestyle among our youth through a non-competitive platform where kids may learn the importance of remaining physically active in a fun and cooperative environment for many years to come.
The Kids Run Miami program is focused on the short- and long-term health and well-being of our youth. We couldn’t be more proud of the outcome achieved from all the hard work and determination put in by the teachers, coaches, kids, and the support of various individuals and groups throughout Miami-Dade County.
