Run Further and Faster in a Group

What’s the secret to gaining instant motivation to run further and faster? According to data collected from Strava, a social network for athletes, running in a group does just that.

Data from 90 million runs gathered from around the world indicated that solo runners traveled at an average of about 7 seconds per mile slower and about 1.3 miles shorter than when running in a group. This insight may provide a substantial basis for realizing the benefits of running in a group to help improve your time per mile and total distance run.

Who knew it could be so simple? Not only does running in a group improve your time per mile and distance run, it can also provide social benefits as well! In a recent industry news article, Gareth Mills, Strava UK Country Manager, supported this idea when he stated, “Running is seen not only as a means of improving fitness and testing performance but also as a way of [socializing] and interacting with the local running community”.

With these kinds of performance and social benefits, running in a group may be the secret to unlocking some serious personal and community-based improvements. If you don’t have an immediate group of friends, family or co-workers to run with, try searching your local community for organized groups that gather each week to train together. Enjoy the company of fellow runners, improve your time and distance, and discover parts of your local community that you may not have realized before.

What’s more, when you register as a group of 10 or more for any Life Time Run Florida events, you can receive awesome perks such as registration discounts, a team tent space during the event, and much more! Learn more about the Groups & Charities Program and apply to register your team.
