Rules

  • ONLY REGISTERED ELITE ATHLETES ARE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZE MONEY. Anyone not registered as an elite athlete in our Elite Program will not be eligible to win prize money.
  • Athlete must attend elite athletes meeting and filming/interviews (if selected).
  • The elite athlete is eligible for the prize money award of the event he/she is registered for. If the elite athlete is registered in the Miami Marathon, he/she is eligible, according to his/her finishing place, for the marathon prize money. If the elite athlete is registered in the Miami Half Marathon, he/she is eligible, according to his/her finishing place, for the half marathon prize money.
  • If a non-Elite Program athlete finishes in the top three of either the full or half marathon (and thus finishes in a place where prize money is offered), that athlete will NOT be paid the corresponding prize money amount, but will still finish in their respective place. EXAMPLE: if a non-Elite Program athlete finishes 2nd in the full marathon by time, that athlete will still be considered the Miami Marathon runner-up, but they will not be paid the 2nd place prize money. In this example, the 1st and 3rd place finishers (assuming they are both registered in the Elite Program) will still receive the corresponding 1st and 3rd place prize money amounts.
  • An elite athlete who wins overall prize money is then subsequently not eligible to win the Masters prize money.
  • Airfare, hotel, or transportation is no longer provided to elite athletes. We have increased the prize purse to compensate for travel associated with stay.
  • All Elite Program Athletes must attend one of the two mandatory technical meetings on race weekend.
  • Any athlete who has ever been convicted of a doping violation by USADA, WADA, IAAF, etc. and thus has served a ban from competition in the past or is currently serving a ban from competition is not eligible to compete in the Elite Program at the Miami Marathon & Half Marathon, and thus is not eligible to win any prize money in the full or half marathon.
  • Athletes who participate in this competition may be subject to formal drug testing in accordance with USATF and IAAF rules, in accordance with USOC, USADA or IAAF procedures. Athletes found, after a disciplinary hearing, to be positive for prohibited substances, as defined by the WADA Code and/or IAAF, or who refuse to be tested will be disqualified from this event and may lose eligibility for future competitions. Any prize money payable to an athlete who has tested positive shall be withheld until the final disposition of all disciplinary proceedings. BEWARE: Some prescriptions, over the counter medications and nutritional supplements may contain prohibited substances. Information regarding drugs and drug testing may be obtained by calling the USADA reference hotline at (800) 233-0393 or at www.usantidoping.org.
